Programming language popularity

Hello, everyone! How is your day going? I hope it’s going well. There are a ton of programming languages in use nowadays. Now, in this article, I will share my opinions on programming language popularity. Jaron Lanier’s computer scientist said:” The most important thing about a technology is how it changes people.” In point of fact, that’s quite clear that nowadays, our world is changing, and everything is changing. We all know that thing depends on various factors that you can have or not.

In this topic, I wanna give some short information about programming language popularity because I am just like everyone else who is in search of the fresh information on this topic.

Now, let’s take a look at them.

What is a programming language?

I would start with the words about a programming language is a kind of written language that tells computers what to do in order to work.

In this context, programming languages are used in computer programming. Most of them consist of instructions for computers. As far as the IT technologies have become an integral part of both our everyday life and work at all, that’s crucial to stay in touch with them.

Types of programming languages

There are two types of them, which can be classified into the next ways:

  • Machine-language – it is the main low- level programming language formed to be accepted by a computer.
  • Assembly-language – it is also known as a low-level language because to perform some action specific knowledge of hardware specification is required.

2. High-level

  • Procedural-oriented – these languages are used to demonstrate the logic and the process in order to solve any problem. It can be represented through such languages as Pascal, COBOL, C, etc.
  • Problem-oriented – it provides users to indicate what the output should be without a description of all the specifics. This language is focused on a result and contains some problem files inside.
  • Natural – this kind of language is still in the progressive point where we could write remarks that would look like normal sentences.

I tried to highlight the most important facts, which can be useful for you.

Now let’s move to the next step.

Top popular programming languages

Let us take a look at the best programming languages to learn for a job and for widening your specter of skills and knowledge. But probably you ask yourself rather often such a question as, “What programming language should I learn?” Let us take a look at the most popular programming languages nowadays.

Nowadays, JavaScript is one of the most widely used programming languages. JavaScript often abbreviated as JS. This program is an undisputed king in different browser programs. Today JS is running on all platforms including servers and mobile devices. I’d like to draw your attention to the main spheres of usage.

This service commonly used to enrich web pages and make them interactive. It is important to add that we can add pop-ups, effects, and even small games to apps. Lots of different technologies including the famous ones are using this programming language as the core. Among them are:

  • Angular JS –is a very public JavaScript framework that can be used for creating single-page apps.
  • Polymer JS. It is a JavaScript library that was created by Google and allows us to refuse from the usage of HTML structure to build apps with components.
  • Ember JS – the framework which provides a high development speed. And, as a rule, that makes the efficiency of the equipment’s router much faster.

Where is JS used for? In fact, the most popular people using JS, on a web page is the only place they use it. The most popular companies such as Microsoft, PayPal, Netflix, Facebook, Google use such a language as JS. JavaScript is just everywhere!

The best thing in this language that it is so popular and widespread that it opens up new possibilities every day to develop something outstanding.

Ruby is quite popular for small application development. However, I would suggest learning a little easier language like JavaScript. You can use this language for almost every type of open source project.

In addition, I would recommend a framework like Sinatra. It’s perfect for beginners. It has two advantages for web development. Firstly, it is easy to learn and comprehend.

The second advantage that it is usually formed from the basic elements in order to become totally modular.

In turn, this module will require more details for the fastest program development. It could be rather crucial when you need to create an app as soon as possible. The most popular open-source projects that employ Ruby include Homebrew, Discourse, and others.

Ruby provides an excellent development system for building different apps. Lots of companies use this language and among them such companies as Airbnb, Crunchbase, Bloomberg and do not forget about GitLab which is also built with the help of Ruby.

Python is a fast, easy-to-use and easy-to-deploy programming language. Of course, it is the most popular language which is used for statistical analysis. As you know Flask is a popular microframework for Python which serves for developing various apps.

It provides the necessary features to get started with the development of your application. In this case, it is worthy to mention such a framework like Django. I reckon that beginners will prefer to start with an easier framework.

Perhaps, it is necessary to point out the fact that it is a major language in some of the most exciting technologies today. Such services like Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest are all built-in Python.

It is the most trending language for building iOS apps. Why so? It’s a much newer language than some other. It is my contention Swift is an open-source language with a simple syntax. This leads us to believe that it is not just easier to write, but much easier to read and maintain as well.

However, it is clear that Swift is simple to understand and is very expensive. Who uses Swift? Here are a few companies: Uber, Slack, Lyft, Asana, and others trust this language. That’s very fast in comparison to other popular programming languages.

The first thing I wanna highlight that it is mostly used for web development services. An important aspect here that PHP powers all kinds of websites and web applications. This service used for creating dynamic web pages. It also works well with databases and used on Facebook and Yahoo.

It is clear from this observation that PHP is still one of the most used programming languages around the globe. So if you think PHP is dead, you’re quite wrong. This service will continue to evolve for years to come.

C/C ++

C/C++ is like a bread and butter of programming. As you know that all low-level systems such as operating systems, file systems are written in C/C++. If you have an intention to become a system developer you definitely need to learn C/C++.

Moreover, it is imperative for you if you wanna become a successful developer at all. This language provides an opportunity to understand programs in an easier and more efficient way. The most notable software companies that use C/C++ as their main technology include Microsoft, Opera, Amazon, Adobe and etc.

Go programming language

Go known also as Golang, is a programming language built by Google. Golang is the fastest-growing programming language. This language is created on the basis of the syntax of the C++ programming language and it is widely used by big players in various industries. Go provides good support for multiprocessing, and it is used by many companies as well. If you would like to learn the Go programming language it is very easy. Such prominent companies as Google, Twitch, Dailymotion.

I hope you would have found your answer now you have a clear vision of the programming language you need to learn. But you have to keep in mind that good developers know one or two programming languages. And remember than more you know than more successful you become.

So, let’s summarize all my words written above. I hope that now you have some more clarity on what a programming language is. As a matter of fact, we recognized the five most popular programming languages along with frameworks for web development that you can explore.

I’d like to mention also that the choice of the programming language to learn is always just up to you. It all depends on skills and desire. Some of them have proven themselves as rather good during the collaboration with many popular companies.

Here is the list of the top seven most popular programming languages:

  • JavaScript;
  • Ruby;
  • Python;
  • Swift;
  • PHP.
  • C/C++
  • Go

Therefore, you are free to pick up any language that you would like to learn and which might better suit your needs. I’m sure you will find what you seek. Many thanks for reading!
